This was a very nice sequel The only problem is It s too short It should have been thrice as long The characters and the story are so great but there is not enough time for them to live Paivi is an awesome and strong heroine without the usual problems some heroines encounter She does not get out of character when confronted with certain situations especially romantic ones Maybe she is a BIT overpowered but okayshe at least can kick ass The romance in this series is very real and not too cheesy as in many many many other YA books It just feels right and not overdone and does not take a huge part of the story A bit background knowledge would have been great Can every EOS learn what Paivi has learned Where does the power come from and how does it differ I loved the development of Torsten He became one of my favorites I do not like his name though and I m german I know the story is based on the Holocaust but the scenes at the camp were just TOO similarlike100% it could have been set apart a little bit. I think the protagonists are displayed a little too young How old is Torsten anyway 13 12 It is never mentioned But i m just picky As you can see at the stars I really liked this book It is definitely worth a read But read the prequel first Darkness Rising Into the Shadows 2 This series is essentially a teenage version of the TV show Heroes of which I was a fan I liked the second book better because pacing was smoother and there was less high school silliness This is also good since I had to pay for book 2 while book 1 is a Kindle freebie Paivi is a likable heroine but I wish there were another female in her crew And she and her brother talk and behave as if they re older than 14 and 13 the romance might be enjoyable too if she and her love interest were a couple years older Darkness Rising Into the Shadows 2 I have been eagerly awaiting this sequel to Into the Shadows Dealing with mass hysteria and emulating the atrocities that happened to innocents during the Red Scare the Holocaust and the Japanese Internment camps Kirkpatrick s Into the Shadows Series quickly captivates the reader Likewise the message she expounds about prejudice is loud and clear and I think both of these novels are must reads for our youth Paivi is still on the run with her brother and Christian but as her powers increase her determination to fight back becomes overpowering and our beloved characters begin making plans to take on the government I wasn t expecting this development in the novel but am glad that Kirkpatrick added it as the evil needs to be stopped and in a way it reminded me of the hit TV series Heroes which I really enjoyed With their superpowers marking them an enemy of the state and her parent nearly dead in a concentration camp there really isn t anything Paivi and her friends can do but fight back Though a bit slower in terms of action than the first novel I still found this a very good enticing read and I am hoping the final installment will come out sooner rather than later as this novel once again ends on a cliffhanger and the suspense is killing me.
