I picked this book up thinking I might be able to find some crafts I could do with the teens at my library There are some cute projects in here but most of them require the templates I still haven t ruled out doing a program using shrink plastic I have some in my craft supplies I m just not sure how to structure the program allowing for the teens to be able to create their own pieces instead of just the exact replicas of those in the book 1454703490 There is an awful lot to like about this book with stacks of classy designs interspersed with whimsical and quirky projects Even if some of the projects themselves don t inspire you a range of different techniques are explored so you have the skills to go off on your own tangent My only complaint is that photocopying scanning some of the templates at the back was a little tricky because they were too close to the gutter and I didn t want to risk damaging the book As of Dec 2014 four of the projects were available on the publisher s website if you want to try before you buy 1454703490 I am totally inspired to make some awesome and beautiful fun and funky shrinky dink craft projects now This book has amazing projecs and just when you think I will never have the talent to do that you get to the end and find all of the wonderful templates the author has generously provided so yes in fact you can do that A really fun book and I will be using this in my craft programs in the future 1454703490 Fun read with basic and advanced information on working with shrink plastics The projects were generally simple with an emphasis on injet printed shrinkies Now that I ve read this I ll use these ideas once I find my shrink plastic 1454703490 I was hoping for some instructions on how to seal pieces how to fasten them together without fusing them and what type of printer setting to use none of which were covered It seemed like the writer was trying too hard not to use any actual brand names and therefore avoided saying anything at all 1454703490 Remember Shrinky Dinks those plastic sheets that magically shrink and harden when heated in the oven Millions of fans do Now theyre back and a hot trend with both mainstream and Etsy crafters Shrink Shrank Shrunk introduces crafters to this friendly fast and fun way to create cool and surprisingly chic jewelry It covers everything from the many new kinds of shrink plastic available including printable to the latest techniques The 35 stylish projects include cute animal shaped rings a Mexican oilcloth necklace origami airplane earrings and Shrink Shrank Shrunk Make Stylish Shrink Plastic JewelryI have to admit that I was kind of shocked when I opened the package that held this book My immediate thought was Shrinky Dinks Jewelry I had some Shrinky Dinks as a kid but not many I think they must have been too expensive and perhaps messy We made some shrink plastic Christmas ornaments a few years ago but I don t remember the circumstances Anyway Apparently Shrink plastic is back and you can wear what you make to work There are about 30 jewelry projects in this book and they are quite interesting They range from earrings and necklaces to cameos Remember those The book starts off with a history of Shrink plastic filled introduction My favorite part of the beginning of the book was the very funny Shrink Plastic Basics pg. Shrink! shrank! shrunk! book summary Lark Books have comprehensive materials lists and this is no exception This is a fun list because you can use a lot of different art supplies to decorate your projects including and inkjet printer colored pencils and rubber stamps The same tools you used in your other jewelry making projects can be used here There is also a lot of talk of sanding the plastic which scares me a little bit. Ebook shrink! shrank! shrunk There is lots of information on techniques like fusing shaping and printing what to expect and how to make jewelry The projects look professional and have vivid colors much better than anything I ve ever accomplished I particularly like the assymetrical designs like a lighthouse with a threaded chain that has a seagull a few inches above it Oh dear I just got iced tea in my eye Please forgive me if this affects my typing It s a wonder that I accomlish anything without ruining it Okay well we ll just avoid the topic of my cooking The projects range from adorable to edgy The woodland creatures are so cute especially the owls and there s a lovely charm bracelet that I love and any kid would too There s a stamped mixed media looking broach And there are sophisticated necklaces my mother would wear and trendy bracelets my sister would love There s even a photo pendant that a normal grandmother would be thrilled with. Kindle shrink! shrank! shrunk There s a necklace with a pendant that looks like a ring of stone I also love the pinky swear necklace and the brooch that s a teabot with a dangling tea bag over a second pin that s a teacup The jewelry itself isn t particular inspired I mean the chains but what I m looking for are ideas I ll look at another jewelry book for ideas about making the chains interesting and earrings from which to dangle the pendants There is one interesting bracelet with hand twisted metal links and metal holding dangling stamen from three dimensional flowers With Shrinky Dinks I m not as fond of the unicorn ring simply because I saw the movie Dead Pool which is fabulous but I ll never look at unicorns the same way again 1454703490
