Murder in Shades of Yellow (DS Charlie Rees, #0.5) By Ripley Hayes
This was a very short novella but felt complete Charlie s is on vacation AND he solved a double murder Not bad This is a prequel to a new series and now I m off to start reading it Kindle Edition Fantastic intro to a new series I m thrilled Charlie gets his own storylines as he was a favorite secondary character in the Daniel Owen books Kindle Edition I read this prequel after reading the first book in the series Murder in Shades of Blue and Green In that book we see Charlie thrown to the wolves and yet rising admirably to the occasion and solving a murder and harrassment from his fellow officers Charlie proved himself to be an excellent DS and a pretty nice guy to boot And in the 58 short pages of this prequel we see him dealing with the possible involvement of the man he spent the night with and the murder that happened across the hall Even in the midst of a pretty bad situation Charlie shows himself to be a good guy 4 stars Kindle Edition This novella I think it classes as that is an introduction to a series I ve had my eye on but not read I m a bit touchy with murder mysteries not my favorite unless like this it s mingled with MM romance This was a short but enjoyable read it certainly didn t go the way I expected but a good story and I just may try the others in this series Kindle Edition A short book used as an intro to the new Charlies Rees series Here Charlie is on a forced vacation in Lanzarote and we learn the circumstances of the scandal which leads to him being moved Kindle Edition
DS Charlie Rees has been sent on holiday His boss says Charlie is burned out and needs a break from crime The first day is pretty quiet The rest not so much Charlie spends it trying to find out who killed the sexy lifeguard and left the body in the room next door Then it turns out that main suspect is the man Charlie spent the night with This is a standalone novella which can be read as the beginning the DS Charlie Rees series Murder in Shades of Yellow DS Charlie Rees 0. 5
The story is well scripted tight and moves along at a brisk pace The characters are well defined and interesting The action at the end was well written and suitably pulse pounding for only a couple pages long Kindle Edition A short mysteryFor Charlie its a day like any other He supposed to be on a vacation A holiday away from crime but no not for Charlie A night out of dancing and drinks A handsome hook up and a middle of the night murder Charlie shouldn t be involved but as a detective he needs to know how it happened and by whom Chief Inspector Jefe was impressed by Charlie s record as a detective and he was a pretty cool character Kindle Edition This isn t a romance which makes sense If people who love the later books go back and see the MC with someone else it would be upsetting His detective work was pretty good although I don t really know what information he used to solve it It wasn t obvious to me The characters were cool I liked the older gay couple I could totally picture them The final confrontation was well done The whole book from start to finish was engaging and a short story the appropriate length for it I like that he says he s not going to judge that everyone had the right to be there and do what they wanted such as drink at 10 am But he kind of did about what they looked like I ve had book one of this series on my to read list for a while and now I m eager to read it Kindle Edition 3. A wicked set of family dynamics and a blackmailing life guard all add up to Charlie being in the thick of a murder whilst on holiday Kindle Edition Series LinkI think this short probably works better as a bridge to the Charlie Rees books if you ve read the Daniel Owen series I jumped straight into the first CR book as my first read for this author then decided to back track and read Murder In Shades Of Yellow so it wasn t quite as enjoyable for me No mindon to the second in Charlie s series 2, 5 4 A quick whodunnit in Lanzarote though due to the short story nature not much scene setting.A couple of good foils with Gray and Pat.5 rounded up Kindle Edition.
